Make your own story sack with help from your child/ren, they will love searching the house for objects and when the story is ready to be read aloud they will feel a sense of achievement as the items are brought out of the bag one by one.

First decide upon a story you would like to turn into a story sack, you will need to equip yourself with a cotton string pull bag (a pump/swim bag or similar will do) You can always decorate this at a later date with the title of the book or your childs name or both on it, be as creative as you like there are lots of cheap craft ideas you can buy these days, or just plain old stiching can be just as effective!

Then with your child if they are old enough to understand go through the book together and make a list of items you could pull out of the bag to make the story come alive as you read it.
You should probably aim for one object per page and try to make it relevant to what is happening on that page and not just something that is in the background picture.

Then spend some quality time reading through the book together and bringing the items out of the bag at the appropriate time, this can be done in several ways; you can ask your child to find the item that is needed for that particular page or you can pull it out and ask them what happened next by giving them a clue using the object either plus many other ways you are the best person to know which will best suit your child but just remember to have fun with it!
