Work Experience:

Temp Nanny 6th- 24th July and Holiday Nanny 31st- 3rd August
I worked within a family home with an 11 year old girl who had cerebral palsy and her 6 year old brother. She is dependent on others and requires all personal care. I got her out of bed when I arrived, gave her a wash and gave her breakfast so she was ready for the school day. Once the school bus has collected her I did the children’s ironing. In the afternoon when I returned I prepared her medicines and what was needed for the afternoon. When she arrived home I changed her position gave her tea and then done activities with both children together, for example, painting, puzzles and reading. I then gave her a bath and got her ready for bed.
I also went for a long weekend to Devon with the family where I continued to do the same duties as I do when in the family home. When I left this job I went on maternity leave.
I do babysitting for the children on occasion evenings and when the 6 year old is off school.

1:1 personal assistant/Special needs Nanny August 2006- June 2009
I worked full-time with a young girl from when she was 9 years old until she was 12 who has severe cerebral palsy. I worked with her Monday to Friday. I went to a special needs school with her during the day and assisted with all her needs and helped with her education. At the end of the school day I would go home with her to feed, care for and bath so she is ready for bed.
Out of term time I was a nanny and did my hours within her family home. I organised activities for her such as sensory play and messy play, read her stories, sang songs and took her for walks during her holidays.
She is very dependent on others and requires all personal care. I have been trained to do suctioning as she needs this throughout the day and also gastrostomy feeding as she does not take any fluids via her mouth. I did physiotherapy with her each day to help with her chest management. I used hoists within the family home and in the school setting to change her positions throughout the day. I have a strong bond with this special girl and also with her twin sister who attends a mainstream school and will always be in contact with the family. I thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of my work.

Goldsborough homecare September 2007- January 2008
As well as my full time job as a 1:1 special needs nanny I started another job on weekends and evenings. I had to visit elderly clients within their home to help them with their physical and personal needs. I carried out such tasks as getting them ready for bed, making them lunch and helped them with their medication. I enjoyed this job but had to leave as I was finding it difficult handling two jobs.

Moving & Handling course- Completed September 2007

Early Years First Aid course (for ages 0-8 years old) - Completed June 2009

I hold an Enhanced Disclosure (CRB)

I have experience with babies from birth as I have a 7 month old baby boy. Also I have been very much involved in my cousin’s life. She is now 4 ½ years old and I thoroughly enjoy spending time with her.
I used to babysit for 6 and 8 year old sisters and am now babysitting for a 5 year old girl.

College placements

St Thomas’s Nursery 8- 26th September 2003 and October 2005- January 2006
During my placement I worked with 1-5 year olds. I worked with groups of children, read, played and supervised. Each morning I would set out different activities and encourage the children to participate and at the end of the day I would organise things for the following day. I really enjoyed working with this age group.

St Michael’s Primary School 6th October- 17th December 2004
During my placement I worked with 5-6 year olds. I worked with all the children helping them with work activities and fun activities. I supervised and helped the children throughout the day and showed awareness of the needs of children. I helped with snack time encouraging children to eat healthily.

Arnold House 16th March- 8th June 2005
During my placement I worked with disabled people. I had to help them around the home and keep them occupied by playing games, talking to them and taking them on day trips. I arranged different activities to enable everyone to join in and have fun.
