PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
2008: Eyrescroft Primary School, Bretton, Peterborough, PE3 8EZ
Here, as part of a school placement I volunteered as a teaching assistant. Though this only lasted for two weeks it gave me an insight into working with young children and pushed me to pursue my interest in early years further. I worked in the reception class, with children aged 4 – 5 primarily, however I sometimes joined other year groups to expand my knowledge. I pursued simple practical tasks, such as tidying up, as well as interacting with the children. I helped them with literacy, numeracy, assisted if they needed me to with their playing and supervised at lunch and break times, but to name a few.

May 2010: Rainbows Playgroup, Middleton, Bretton
Here, I volunteered for over a year as a young leader. As a young leader, my role was to assist the leader of the group in any way she saw fit. However, I often led the session myself and planned the activities. Rainbows allowed me explore child play and development much further and began building my knowledge much more soundly. I began to understand holistic development and the individual needs of children, as stated in the EYFS. Again, I helped with tasks such as tidying and preparing activities, along with helping the child engage in the task and making sure they felt at ease and comfortable. I also worked alongside their parents at times, in case either them or I had any concerns about the child, or to keep them involved about what they were learning etc.

October 2010: Boots Chemist, Unit 2, Bretton Centre, PE3 8DB
Here, I worked as a sales assistant. It was my duty to work on the til, stocking shelves and helping customers in any way they saw fit. This taught me what a formal employee would most be looking for. It helped improve my confidence when dealing with new people and I learnt to be flexible with working hours, so I was nearly always available when my boss asked me to be. I always presented myself in a respectable, tidy manner and ensured myself to always be on time. I addressed both my colleagues and customers in a friendly and approachable manner. My team building skills improved dramatically as well as the ability to perform alone. These are important attributes, I believe, to have when working as a nanny.

INTERESTS
Aside from my obvious interest in early year’s education, I have a keen interest for reading. This has helped me in a variety of ways – it has improved my vocabulary and also bettered the standard of my university work. Furthermore, I enjoy meeting new people and accepting new challenges. I enjoy travelling to new places also.
Finally, I am looking ideally to be a holiday nanny. With university, one of the many benefits is the long holiday periods you receive. I’d like to put this to good use and work in a job I enjoy, and believe both the family would benefit from, and I would benefit from the experience. I would love to be considered for such a role.
