Work
Experience

Date: June 2003 – present day
Type: Child care
Responsibilities: Taking care (in general) of children aged from 1 to 13 for many different
clients frequently over the last 8 years.

Responsiblities include bathing children, changing nappies, cooking and making meals, cleaning up after them, collecting them from school and kindergarten, entertaining them and playing with them, making sure that they are safe and soundly asleep at a sensible time for their age.

Personal growth: I have always been a caring, responsible and reliable person and this
job has strengthened that plus supported my passion for helping people, taking care of children and being with children. I have always been mature for my age but this job required me to become much more adult especially as a 14 year old when I began.

Date: Every school holidays for at least 5 x 6 - 8 hour days in the years of 2003 and 2004 doing typing, filing, cleaning and tidying, business errands, photocopying and folding many letters and putting them into envelopes.

Employer: 'Martin Wilson Law' which was a small law firm that my father used to own and run.

Personal growth: Gained more confidence and knowledge in business, improved my organisational skills, cleaning skills and patience.

Date: Early December 2005 to late January 2006

Employer: Willis Street “New World Metro”

Responsibilities: Helping create Christmas gift baskets, aiding florist, stocking shelves, working at the checkout.
Personal growth: I grew more responsible and strong as an employee because I had to work hard to satisfy my employer. For example: Not making any mistakes with checking items, being polite and friendly to customers and achieving what the florist and my employer wanted with the gift baskets and bouquets of flowers.

Dates: April 2006 to February 2007 ( resigned due to heavy workload from school ) and September 2007 to early December 2007 ( forced to resign due to illness putting me in hospital for 2 months )

Employer: “Karori New World”

Responsibilities: Operating the checkout, cleaning the store ( mainly the shelves ) and tidying them and stocking shelves.
Personal growth: This was similar from working at “New World Metro.” I worked there for longer, however, and was mostly on the checkout so I learned more about how to deal with customers. I used to be quite shy before this job but after working there I learned how to always look people in the eye and speak confidently, assertively and clearly.

Volunteer work that I have done in the community

For 2 months in 2008 I entertained and helped very sick elderly people in the dementia unit of Kenepuru Hospital with art work and other creative things. I did this 2 times a week.
I have helped many people with mental health surveys and investigations on how to make the services offered by DHBs in New Zealand more beneficial for mental health consumers.
I spent 9 weeks in mid 2010 volunteering every week day for just over an hour and a half (or 2 plus hours if I stayed for lunch) being a teacher aide in a new entrants' classroom at Paekakariki school. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. I helped them learn to read, write and do arithmetic. I read them stories, organised and supervised art activities which we then did with my instructions and help and stayed for lunchtimes and spent time with the children out of class, playing with and supervising them.
